Solid Hardwoods
Solid hardwoods are just as the name implies, a single piece of hardwood generally varying in width from 3/4” to 5/16.” Solid hardwoods can be pre-finished from the factory or can be purchased unfinished and sanded, stained and finished once they are installed. Solid hardwoods are very resilient and can handle multiple sand and finishes.
Engineered Hardwoods
Engineered hardwoods use a veneer style backing with a thin layer of real wood applied over the surface and cannot accommodate as many refinishes as solid wood flooring. Hardwoods react to moisture and temperature and engineered hardwoods can offer more stability for areas that may experience variances in temperature and humidity such as basements.
Both solid and engineered hardwoods are available in a variety of wood species and finishes from quality manufacturers like Shaw Hardwoods, LW Mountain, Lockwood and Bella Cera Floors.
